In a significant development following the Union Home Ministry’s order for a thorough investigation into the December 13 Parliament security breach, an inquiry committee led by CRPF Director General Anish Dayal Singh has taken proactive measures to recreate the exact scene of the crime. The committee, comprised of high-ranking officers from paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and the Security Division of Delhi Police, has conducted three meticulous recreations and interrogated on-duty security personnel.

On December 15, Singh and other committee members visited the Parliament premises, instructing security personnel to assume their designated duty spots while two officers played the roles of intruders named Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D. The committee carefully documented observations during this recreation. Notably, eight security personnel previously suspended by the Lok Sabha Secretariat were not involved in the recreation but are anticipated to have their statements recorded in the coming days, according to insider sources.

The committee repeated the recreation process on December 16, with IG-rank officers questioning security personnel and inspecting equipment designated for Parliament security. This investigative exercise was repeated once more on Monday, underscoring the committee’s commitment to a comprehensive inquiry.

Initial findings from the probe have highlighted that there have been no recent recruitments in Parliament security, leading to a significant shortage of approximately 350 personnel. To address this shortfall, the authorities have enlisted the services of several ex-servicemen. The committee has sought detailed data from the Parliament Security Service, including current personnel strength and the extent of the shortage.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Home Affairs had previously announced the inquiry, stating, “An Inquiry Committee has been set up under Anish Dayal Singh, DG, CRPF, with members from other security agencies and experts. The committee will investigate the reasons for the breach in security of Parliament, identify lapses and recommend further action. The committee will submit its report with recommendations, including suggestions on improving security in Parliament, at the earliest.”

As the committee continues its comprehensive investigation, the nation awaits the final report, expecting crucial insights and recommendations to fortify the security apparatus safeguarding the heart of India’s democracy.
