New Delhi : The national capital and its surrounding regions continue to grapple with cold weather conditions and moderate fog, creating disruptions in travel plans for residents and visitors alike. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for dense fog across North India, urging caution and advising citizens to stay informed about their travel schedules.
As of today, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 10.7 degrees Celsius, with the IMD warning of difficult driving conditions, slower journey times, and potential diversions on highways, airports, and railway routes.
The impact on transportation has been evident, with over 80 flights experiencing delays at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, according to news agency ANI. Passengers expressed their frustration, citing two-hour delays and disruptions to their travel plans.
“Fog conditions today are a bit better compared to yesterday. The other day it took me two hours to cover a forty-minute route,” remarked a cab driver, highlighting the challenges faced by those on the road.
The visibility levels across various regions were reported by the IMD, indicating a range from 200 to 500 meters in places such as Ludhiana, Bareilly, Delhi, Lucknow, and others. The foggy conditions have prompted authorities to advise the use of fog lights while driving and staying in touch with transportation providers for updated schedules.
Amidst these weather challenges, preparations for the Republic Day parade are in full swing at the Kartavya Path in the national capital. Despite the adverse weather, organizers are committed to ensuring a spectacular event, showcasing the nation’s unity and diversity.
As residents navigate the foggy conditions, the emphasis on safety remains paramount. Travelers are urged to exercise caution, follow advisory guidelines, and stay informed about any changes to their travel plans during this period of challenging weather in Delhi-NCR.
