Panvel, a bustling city in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, is set to witness the construction of its largest sports complex yet. Spanning an impressive 33,392.61 square meters in sector 3 of Kalamboli, this ambitious project is poised to transform the city into a vibrant hub for sporting events.
The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has earmarked a substantial plot for the development of this mega sports complex, which will cater to a wide range of indoor and outdoor sporting activities. The project is still in its early stages, with the PMC currently seeking consultants to prepare a comprehensive master plan, complete with detailed architectural and development plans, as well as a 3-D representation of the proposed complex.
Dr. Vaibhav Vidate, the deputy municipal commissioner (sports), expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it has the potential to elevate Panvel’s status as a sporting destination. He emphasized the need to utilize the available space efficiently, incorporating a diverse range of sporting activities. Once the consultant is finalized, there will be extensive consultations with stakeholders to determine the specific sporting activities to be included and the allocation of space within the plot.
The proposed sports complex will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a hall with wooden or synthetic flooring for national-level badminton, volleyball, and basketball games, two badminton courts, international standard double squash courts, multipurpose halls for table tennis, snooker, indoor shooting, archery, yoga rooms, carom, and chess rooms. Additionally, the complex will boast an Olympic-sized swimming pool with a stadium facility.
A significant portion of the plot will be reserved for various types of pitches, catering to the needs of cricket enthusiasts in the city. The planning agency will also designate areas for football and international-level running tracks.
In addition to these facilities, the complex will provide training grounds for pole vault, discus throw, shot put, javelin throw, hammer throw, and long and triple jump arenas.
PMC is committed to constructing an eco-friendly, sustainable sports complex with a lifespan of 100 years. The structure will be designed as a green building, with a focus on harnessing renewable energy sources and minimizing energy consumption.
The project’s estimated cost and timeline for completion will be determined by the consultants. If approved, the construction is expected to be completed within 24 months.
The proposed sports complex in Panvel is poised to be a game-changer, offering world-class facilities and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle among its residents.
