Rajasthan Reels Under Severe Heatwave, Bikaner Hottest At 45 Degrees

Jaipur, May 10, 2024 – As the blazing sun continues to scorch the desert state of Rajasthan, Bikaner recorded a blistering temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius on Friday, marking one of the hottest days of the season. The relentless heatwave has engulfed several districts including Bikaner, Nagaur, Jodhpur, Churu, Hanumangarh, and Ganganagar.

The Meteorological Department has issued a stern warning of potent dust storms looming over many regions in the state for the upcoming days. However, there is a glimmer of hope as the department predicts a slight reduction in maximum temperatures, offering some respite from the relentless heatwave.

During the peak of the heatwave, temperatures soared across the state with Bikaner topping the charts at 45.5 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Phalodi at 45.2 degrees Celsius and Churu, Fatehpur, and Ganganagar at 44.9 degrees Celsius. Other districts experiencing scorching temperatures include Kota (44.2°C), Jaisalmer (43.8°C), Karauli (43.6°C), Pilani (43.5°C), and Barmer (43.4°C).

Despite the sweltering conditions, a change in weather was observed in the afternoon in certain parts of Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, and Udaipur divisions. Light rain accompanied by thunder provided temporary relief from the scorching heat, offering a much-needed reprieve to residents.

In the capital city of Jaipur, the maximum daytime temperature touched 43 degrees Celsius. However, in the evening, clouds gathered, and strong winds commenced, hinting at a potential shift in weather patterns.

As the heatwave persists, residents are urged to take necessary precautions to stay safe, including staying hydrated, seeking shade, and avoiding outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and advise residents to stay informed about weather updates and advisories.
